Koh Samui is a small island off the East coast of Thailand. Unlike most of the Thai islands, you don't have to endure a bumpy speedboat ride to get there, you simply fly in! 1.5 hours after leaving busy Singapore, you touch down at what has to be the worlds smallest airport. 15 minutes later you're at your hotel. Throw away your mobile phone now and enjoy the weekend!

Vici got welcomed with a garland of fresh orchids, while I got presented with the bill. Nice !

We stayed at Poppies Resort, which is a small complex with only 24 cottages for guests. The cottages were quite special, as you can see below....

The best bit was the bathroom, which had a garden in the corner, with no roof! So it rained inside! (Did I mention it rained a lot ? More on that later....)

The front of the hotel faced onto the busy main street that runs the full length of Chaweng Beach. Due to the fact it was raining (Did I mention that ?) the street was fully submerged for the whole duration of our stay..... which was nice !

As usual I blended in with all the culture that was around us !

On the Sunday morning we went on a pilgrimage (Well, by the hotel Land Cruiser) to see the Big Buddha. But before we could do that, we had to cut our teeth on Small Buddha with lots of Arms......

....and Fat Buddha (Which looked strangely like the Marshmallow Man in Ghostbusters).......

...before we finally got to the Big one...

Note the umbrellas due to the.... well, you get the picture !

So all in all a nice weekend despite the weather, which was probably our own fault for going at this time of year. The people really made the trip for us. Excellent friendly service at Poppies. Even the house cat (aptly named, yep you guessed it... Poppie) was friendly !
