Last night we celebrated the Deepavali festival here in Singapore.
The venue was our old home, The Bayshore. The food (and drink) were both excellent. Many thanks to Surin and Gurdeep for being such great hosts. It was nice to catch up with lots of old friends and also make a few new ones.
What is Deepavali? "Festival of Light", where the lights or lamps signify the uplighting of darkness and victory of good over the evil within. It is a celebration of life and an occasion to strengthen family and social relationships The celebrations focus on lights and lamps, particularly traditional dīpa or deeya (earthen lamp), and fireworks. On the day of Divali, many wear new clothes, share sweets and snacks. Some North Indian business communities start their financial year on Divali and new account books are opened on this day. |
